I'm just wondering how much someone would spend on a decent watch? And no don't say a rolex lol, I don't have thousands to spend, right now I'm look around Ј300 but I could go higher. How much do most middle-class people spend on a nice watch?

To stay on topic, it depends person-to-person. How much do YOU want to spend on the watch is the real question (which means none of us can really help you).

It's personal preference; like Potassium said. Buy one that you feel comfortable wearing and like the look of. I choose Emporio Armani, you can get some decent ones probably for around Ј300.
I have one for casual day-to-day use which was around $400AUD, not sure what that is in British pounds and one for special occasions which was around $900. So there is also that to consider. I've had cheaper watches in the past but they're really not worth it if you like watches that much. You get what you pay for at the end of the day. If I had the money, I would gladly go out and buy a really expensive watch.
I'm not sure how old you are but Swatch watches are very nice and stylish, they look a little childish/hipster but can be pretty expensive, under the Ј150 range though. My opinions, you should go out and look at them yourself before taking advice from other people.
