Wife managed to get a second disc over the gates and into the blu-ray. The drive got pissed needless to say and I had to rip it apart to get the discs out. Since I was left w/ a pile of springs and clockwork at that point I decided to replace the drive itself.
Got a replacement drive, moved the board from old to new and connected new one. PS3 is still acting like it did when it jammed...powers up for a few seconds, flashes the yellow light and beeps...then sits there flashing the red light.
Think I have a bad replacement drive, or is it possible that jamming the original drive managed to fry something on the mainboard itself?

I had a ps3 years ago, after 1 year I tried to turn it on that morning and got a yellow light and the same things as you, I contacted my brothers friend who is the playstation manager of ireland, and he replaced my ps3 with a brand new one. He didn't give much information about the yellow light, but just said it needed to be replaced, so i'm guessing its not fixable or something.

Turn the system off. Wait for it to completely power down, and then push and HOLD the power button and wait for it to beep (I think it will beep twice). This will sort of "reset" the system and then it should work fine. Otherwise, you were given a bad replacement drive.
NOTE: If you use HDMI with your PS3, resetting the system will remove your HDMI settings and you will need to turn the console off and back on again for HDMI to begin working.

Don't be like this. Atleast it isn't as bad as Xbox, have you heard the amount of light deaths xbox has compared to PS3? The latest PS3 model and even the PS3 slim is PRETTY hard to become defective. I have the Slim, maybe you should upgrade..

Xbox did have a horrible start but since the new 360 came out I haven't heard of any major problems with them for years now. All consoles can have their issues.
