Longevity of Roleplay on SA:MP.
#1

Hi. So there is no 'real' answer to the question I'm going to ask, just so you know. So, I will be starting a RP server, serious, but I have one worry. I feel as if it's to late in SA:MP's life to make a RP server, as in, does RP still appeal to people, and are people actively joining SA:MP. I am all for dedicating time to this server, months and months to get a decent playerbase, but there's the thing that it might not work at all. So really, what do you think about making a serious RP server at this day in time, and if it actually has a chance. This goes to all people thinking about making RP servers, is it worth it if you're going to be dedicated? Anyway, thanks!

I believe nothing beats a try.

If you are going to be dedicated to your project. I don't see why you shouldn't continue. There's always a chance it might become successful. I also warn you to be prepared for failure.

Role play in SA-MP is not like it was in the early stages. Everything has become over rated although their are some good features out there. There's still bits of role play going on those dedicated role play servers.

There are alot of role play servers out there people are complaining about. Most of them are running the same downloadable gamemodes with a low player base. If you are going to open a role play server and want to become successful. You have to try to be professional. You should get a gamemode scripted from scratch with unique features. Don't just go download some gamemode and upload to your server.

Regards.

Very true, and that's why I'm looking for a halfway decent scripter. I mean, in truth, it's the same shit everywhere. You join a server and they ask if you're a female, male, and some other crap. If not that, there's a server with a good script but the wrong playerbase, and the wrong administration team and most aren't set out on serious RP. When I say serious RP, I don't mean /me inhales, /me exhales, you know what I mean I assume. But feel free to get more into detail on what you said, be prepared for failure.

The "serious" roleplay honestly died when ERP and ARP left the roleplay scene..

I'm going to have to disagree with that. Without saying names, there's 1-2 serious RP servers that do it well. There's 3-4 servers up, which are trying to be serious, but aren't breaking through yet. There have been a lot of serious RP servers attempted, but everytime after each one, they get shut down when they have stuff going for it.

Thats why i said it has honestly died. None of the serious roleplay servers are making it very well.

Oh, well in that case yes. But as I said, it's only because the owners aren't dedicated enough and shut down the server after a month.

You're completely wrong... There are more than one serious roleplay server active at the moment. Not to advertise or anything, just saying.

To be on topic too: It's not too late to make a roleplay server but try to do something unique. Not just the same things all other servers have. If you have a unique gamemode, with a stable host server, a serious scripter and owner, you'll go far.

What I meant by to be prepared for failure is very simple to understand but I'll explain.

There's only like a 10-20% chance of becoming a successful role play server with a good daily playbase in these times. If you are a dedicated owner as you said, you might just make it but expect a lot of rough times and struggles.

Of course, and there's some other problems too. I'm rather young, and paying for both host's and I'll need future investments too. I Can't script, I'd like to learn how to do that as well but I don't really have a starting point. I'm willing to learn other things, such as webhosting sa:mp hosting and what not, but Scirpting is kind of on another level, for the time being.
