VPS for 500 sloted SA:MP server?
#1

I asked this question a while ago, but no good answers came up, so i ask again.

What kind of a VPS could support 500 players without a problem?

I know people will say: Depends on your script. Well if that's the case, how can i test my script to find out?

Anyway, if you manage to avoid the lame answer above, please write this:

Bandwidth / Connection / RAM / CPU

Thank you.

The script is really optimized, i put a lot of work in it just to make it fast.

I need: Bandwidth / Connection / RAM / CPU

I don't like to waste my money on something i won't use.

I don’t intend to be rude, but it’s highly unlikely that you’re going to get a server anywhere near five hundred players, so think realistically and purchase the resources you need, not what you don’t need.

Test your script locally to see the RAM usage, memory is generally statically allocated within SA-MP, so as long as you aren’t using anything like PVars in your script, you’ll be able to see what amount of RAM is being used properly.

As for CPU, that’s highly dependant on your scripting and what players do on your server. You’re never going to be able to stress test accurately how much CPU you’re going to need. Well, I say never, it’ll be hard unless you stress test with a load of people in the same area spamming commands and whatnot.

As for bandwidth/"connection," a full 100 player server apparently uses around 4Mbps, so 5 * 4 = 20, you’re going to need around 20Mbps for your server’s upload/download (upload speed is the most important in this case). As for bandwidth, I’d not be able to give you an accurate measurement.

Thank you, that was really helpful. I didn't know that RAM was statically allocated (i thought it depended on the number of players online). As for the 500 slot thingy, yes it's kinda an overkill but curently my server reguraly passes 100+ players so im thinking ahead.

also most vps provider will let you upgrade/downgrade your system, so start small monitor the resource and your free to take over sa-mp !

Fair enough.

Try check what resources you’re using right now with your current player count and multiply/add whatever you believe might be necessary—no guarantees, but you'll have a partial estimate.

I would, but curently im not on a VPS, im only the owner of a server and you don't have such info in a game panel.

Agreed.

And yes, the RAM doesn't depend on how many players their are, like Calg00ne said, it is statically allocated.

Which, at the moment, if your server only reaches 100 people, no need to buy 500 slots, just upgrade by 50 or 75, so that way you don't use resources not needed and plus your increasing little by little.

True, that's why I host my server on a friends dedi, so that way if I need any info, I can get it easily.
