Threaded Mode
How do I join my server just to see if it works with only me in it? Please Help

Every time I click on my server it loads then when I get to the part where it says connecting... It says could not connect retry..
Could someone tell me how to fix this problem because I just started learning this stuff today.
Oh yeah and for some reason My the ping on my serveris now 9999 why is this happeneing?
