It can happen to anyone, they fixed their issues after that.

Yahoo got hacked too, avoid yahoo?
Adobe got hacked too, avoid adobe?
Steam got hacked too, avoid steam?
U.S. Department of Justice got hacked

so it can happen anywhere

Were raw passwords leaked for those? I wouldn't trust a web host that stores their customers' passwords raw. That's my point with 000webhost. Besides, there are literally thousands of free alternatives so why risk it with a company that has had such a huge fuck up?

Did they store them raw? Or did the hacker decode them... If the hacker decoded them, then yes there security needs fixing but like stated above they have now fixed their issues and I bet they are more secure than ever. Possibly safer to go to them than others as they would have revamped all their security.

Password security in large companies is an absolute joke. Place where I do my internship is just like that. Three IT guys (including myself) managing a network of ~300 computers, regularly having to ask "what's your password?" over the phone. Even though we have multiple tools to change the password to gain access to a locked computer or account. Users simply don't like their passwords being changed.

When we do reset a password (forgotten or expired) we will usually make something up and tell it to the user over the phone, rather than using the inbuilt options ("generate random password" and "user must change password at next logon"). Convenience is obviously more important than any real security.

Sorry for this off-topic anecdote.

Well some time it's your job to tell them no, especially if you're doing it professionally.

Just saying, 000webhost ended up being part of a phishing scam recently, where if you signed up to a site, they'd have you signed up to about 6 in quick succession. When highlighted about it their response was simply terrible.

They are truely one to be avoided at all costs, as really, if it's free, it's going to be shit.
