After struggling to get my Linux server to start my NPC, I found out that what prevented the server from launching the bot (while I could do it manually without any problem), is the directory structure of my host.
It seems like ConnectNPC() doesn't like having blanks in the directory structure of the host (in which case quotes are needed to execute bash commands). I had to rename my directories so that they don't have any blanks in the access path, in order to get ConnectNPC() to work.
It's just one of those little little things that make you go rage for hours, before you find them...
