New board?
#1

I don't know which place should be perfect to ask this question, but Scripting Help board is flooded with same questions again and again, newbie questions, asking to script this or that or the one having no explanation about what they actually need (like missing code, cannot explain much about the issues). I'm quite sure most of the reputable members of this forum have started to ignore this board because of these types of questions, (including myself) and it's really a downside for the scripters who really need help with something important which is not yet answered before. So yeah, just wanted a separate board for different type of questions, having proper questions to ask, where it'd be fun to reply, and get to know about something new.

tl;dr My main point of this thread is simply to discuss about a new board or a special thread for such questions where a specific reputation user could reply instead of some new scripter spamming it with the same questions.

I apologize if this is discussed before.

Thank you for taking some time reading this.

what kind of questions would the new board get? I feel like there isn't many questions that haven't been answered

A board that only people with enough reputation can post in for help?
Isn't that a bit descriminating?
And if there's a bad question, you can just ignore it, and look at the ones posted by reputable members.

It's not only about a question, there could be something you can get stuck with, like some calculations, or something you are having trouble finding, a proper method of doing something. Browsing that Scripting Help board gives me a headache everytime since there aren't REAL questions, it bores me and I also believe nobody would like to post there since it's too much crowded with the newbie questions.

This isn't discriminating, it's just that the quality questions are nowhere to be seen. You can't just find questions with reputable members, it's just that people like me won't like to post there at ALL, since there's a very low chance if any reputable scripter would check that thread.

If you see spam - report it. If you don't want to answer newbie question, ignore it. Cherry-pick the most interesting ones, and reply to them. Daily there are at least a few interesting ones, so just skip "Plz halp me rep+" thread titles, skip "ini to mysql plz help rep+", skip "dini not working plz help rep+", skip "2 error help rep+", skip "error 001: expected token: ";" WHAT DOES IT MEAN PLZ HELP REP+", remember which users suck at using their brains, and you'll stay with tiny amount of cool questions.

StackOverflow would like a word.

Reputable members hardly post any questions. The ones they do post are generally quite difficult to solve, and as a result immediately get buried under a new load of dumb questions.

The one thing this board could use is a few more active moderators to clean up scripting help. I'm just now looking at the first page and I see threads with titles like "help little problem", "4 error help", "compile problem".

I agree, but creating a new board for "harder questions" is somewhat elitist. If you want to ask which method between two is better, you could ask in Scripting Discussion, and if you have a "normal" question, just ask in Scripting Help. Somebody will respond eventually.

You want less useless topics? Invite members to give good titles to their topic.

I've been searching for an effective way to remove the spawn button when a player connects to my server using the search engine of this forum, only a few topics had good titles related to the problem (and none of them contains the answer I'm looking for).

Here are some ideas coming from another community I often visit:
- Moderate topics with bad title
- Invite members to search for the solution before creating a new topic
- Moderate topics which could be answered with a simple search (remove a reputation point?)
- Create an FAQ with various answers in categories (this could solve my problem if it was done well)

The problem with the current reputation system is that it highlights people who post gamemode and other stuff but not really people who help others. A large majority of members only have a few reputation points even if they help a lot (not my situation, but I've seen it quite often).

I do ignore them but it's really hard to find a good question with that shitloads of stupid threads.

I did not mean "harder questions", I meant proper questions, not something like the way Misiur just described. Scripting Discussion is a separate board to discuss about something related to scripting, NOT asking about scripting related help.

Implying if they will put good titles, even though Y_Less did posted a thread about it (details below).

You should set TogglePlayerSpectating(playerid, true); to OnPlayerRequestClass() then, set your own camera positions, or any custom textdraw buttons.

Well, they're great ideas but Y_Less did already post a thread called How To Ask Good Questions. I'm also sure the board is sometime is only moderated by Y_Less but the spammy threads are too much to handle, and I know how hard that can be.

I'm going to argue with this. I've got 80% of my reputations through helping, is that something isn't it? I haven't released ANYTHING on this forum, except for some map which was released when SA-MP Forum used SMF and there was no reputation system at all.

Helping someone is not the only thing, my experience after checking out multiple helping threads, most of them are having no explanation of their solution, so it's like nobody would understand that, would they? Copy pasting stuff won't help unless you try something by yourself, and get to know more about the issue.
