What's wrong with 1and1? I bought couple of domains from there. Charged 0.99 for first year. 5 minute setup.

Never do that, you would never know if they will shut down. Major public companies such as 1and1, houstgator etc are less likely to shutdown, and if they will there will be a press release with a way to get a refund etc.
