Mapping Islands - Anyone have tips?
#1

I am trying to make an island for a server I am making, but I can't really find a good object to do it. I tried that island base SA-MP object, but it isn't big enough and didn't work that well. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try with seabed objects, they're cool. Below I'll put a link of one of my first maps that got shared in SA-MP forums, get the codes and check it out, you may take ideas there and make one yourself even better

For the love of level design, link it to the seabed. So many times have I seen islands "hovering" in the water and you can swim under them it's awful!

What I tend to do is use the seabed objects in a sort of octagonal shape leading up to the main island body. The problem with these however, is they are perfectly flat so the seams should be patched up with something (either a hilly object or rocks).

Leading up to the island body, the beach can change the angle to either steeper or gentler slope. Here you can start to use more detailed and interesting objects while thinking more about the shape and look of the island. I tend to make a mix of beach and cliff face but this all depends on the region/style of the island (tropical, reeflike, volcanic, grassy, etc).

My last piece of advice and probably most important is take full advantage of materials! This is the single most significant and useful feature for level designers ever added in SA:MP! You are not restricted to objects that fit the look of the level, you could use chilliad meshes and desert textures. Look up the texture studio by Pottus as it's a great tool.

Hope that helps, good luck with your island design
That'll probably help me. Thanks.

Here is my tip, Islands are one of the worst choices you can make if your going to build them you will have issues with the camera going through objects unacceptable in my view from a quality standpoint.
