Car question (Volvo)
#1

This probably isn't a great place to post this because half of the people on this forum are < 13 but I wanted to get as many responses as possible.

I'm looking at a 2005 Volvo S40 T5 AWD. It has > 100,000 miles. Does anyone here have experience with that car? Heard anything nice about that car? Anything particular I should know like known problems, etc.

Thanks.

You won't fail with Volvo,Volvo is great car.
And s40 2005 is good choice it's low on repairs and much better than s60 if you ask me in the way of money.
That car don't breaks often and engine its hard to broke belive me i did much things with s40 2007
I had 440DL 1997-8 then s60 2004 then s40 2007 now i have audi a8 2003,but what i can say Volvo is great choice,wish you luck to buy it.

If you're looking for performance, don't go with S40. S40 is known for its safety, even I like it for its safety. The steering is real tight (can get it loosened at any outlets). The seats are harder, not cushy cushy :3 Great horsepower, but engine can sometime rev up too much to reach some MPH.

The brakes are really great, can depend on them to stop an accident

But you have to be careful with this car, going too much miles like 13,000 miles will get your car's clutch worn out.. I've seen many many complaints about this.. so the only main con is the durability Get a service once a month or something like that, haha.

I suggest to see online reviews, like Yahoo and also ****** it

P.S;

Although you need to be careful where you're buying it, not all cars have the same problems

I'm not looking for huge performance, but it's always fun to have some. And the safety features are obviously really good to have.

And 13,000 miles is really below average, but I doubt I'll be doing that anyways. Driving to school, work, home, and some other misc. things. Thanks.

WTF? Are you serious? A worn out clutch every 13k? How do you drive to wear one out. I would honestly look for something with less miles, ive had problems with higher mileage cars before (toyota, honda, acura, ford) and stay away from old Mercedes like the plague....they are full of electrical issues :/ and i had engine trouble with my e... but ky friend had an 04 s500 that was always in the shop.......he sold it with less than 20k after 3 years and his commute is a solid 80 miles a day. he put a few loaners out of commission lmfao.

Do you know how to drive? My car's 13 years old with 170,000km's, approximately ~105,000miles and the clutch is fine.

OT: Any German car would be a good choice.

Volvo's are great cars, however I don't and never will drive. My Mum still has her S40 from 2003 and it's running fine now apart from broken seat heaters!

Owned this car for 4 years and I was quite satisfied, outstanding throttle response for such a price machine
although I did change the break pads at around 40k miles still on the orig michelin tires after 40k miles, You could tell its a quality vehicle when you shut the door and sit inside.
The inside dash is very well laid
be warned though its breaks and headlights needs proper maintenance every once in a while.
Bottom line is that it is a good car.
