Have searched around, but can't see how this is related to anything other than the drivers of the GPU, but I can't go back too far as then they won't be optimized for modern games?

Are you trying to use multiple screens at once? This could contribute to this issue. You might also want to make sure that you have installed the most up to date drivers, and you might want to try renaming your GTA:SA directory.

Try to delete gta_sa.set from GTA San Andreas User Files, you can find this directory in documents folder.

Tried this.

Done the GTA_SET thing too. AMD told me to clean the old NVIDIA drivers, did so and worked fine for about 20 minutes.

EDIT: if you using windows 8 then you gonna have issues as its not really meant for gaming at all
