Coding Scammers
#1

Hello,

I recently needed to have a program written for me in C++ as I didn't have the knowledge of the necessary APIs nor time to learn them. So, I turned to one of the fellow members here on the SA:MP forums who was advertising "C++ Programming for $$" in Skype. Upon taking up on the offer, I asked a couple basic questions to make sure he was capable of doing what I wanted before I shoveled out some payment. To my surprise, he had absolutely no idea about what C++ even was. I found this very upsetting and also a trap for others who would simply go on his words, hence the creation of this thread.

This thread was created in hopes of "keeping the scammers out". I plan to have a compiled list of everyone who ever tries to offer coding services without adequate knowledge of what their doing from this forums. This will obviously require community help, so this will be basically derived from those reported to me, and the list will be updated appropriately. No one will be put on the list without proof, however. People should be capable of knowing how to make sure people know what they are doing, but with the average aged member of this forum, I have (and personally seen) my doubts.

Rules for reporting:
  • The individual must be from the SA:MP Forums
  • The individual must be reported for a coding scam; nothing more
  • You must have adequate proof
  • Any extra information (a SS, Skype/MSN/****** Talk address, e-mail)
It is pretty simple. Hopefully this will keep certain people from getting scammed for their (or their parent's!) money.

To report someone, simply post their information and your proof below. Anyone who reports someone and does not have appropriate proof to support their claim will be ignored.

Thanks.

Note for the moderators:
If you find anything wrong with this post, please only lock it and contact me via PM to settle something out. If there are some things that should be changed or removed let me know. I would really hate to have it removed prior to knowing the reason or having an explanation.

This is most likely to be locked/deleted considering comments will contain arguments, and each will have 2 different sides of the story.

Most scammers will just make new accounts when they see this. Just make sure you get to know the person first. That's really all you can do. Be careful making online payments.

@Riddy: I'm aware, but with appropriate proof there is no argument to be made. If that does become a problem hopefully moderators will simply regulate it and notify me before anything else is done. This is something that I can see helping those less prepared in the future.

@freddy smyth: That is very true, but this will limit SOME of them at least. It's better to prevent one scam than non at all. This threads existence isn't hurting anyone.

I'd like to see a trust system in place like at MultiMart and Ebay. That Would make these things mmuch easier, though SAMP isn't really about managing transactions.

That would be neat, but simply won't be implemented for understandable reasons. You should honestly know how to protect yourself from online scams before trying to purchase or sell something, but that is simply not always the case. Despite that being said, there is nothing wrong with trying to help those less educated.

This is a very nice idea, and it doesn't matter if they do "multi accounts", nobody will trust a guy who registrated 2 days ago and who's got 2 forum msgs

We already had a topic like this, eventually people will just favourtize and create some bullshit log to contradict of another.

Better off posting this on a marketing site then here.
