Detect DDoS Attacks.
#1

Hello,

I have a VPS that worked fine before this morning.
Yesterday when I wen't to bed, there were about 90 players, then this morning I come in, and it start reconnecting like 10 times, and suddenly it was over, no more connection.
I contacted my host company, and they told me that there wasn't anything wrong because they didn't get a error message, after this I started looking by myself, when I ping to the IP from home, I get a timeout, but when I ping inside the console at the controlpanel from my hoster, I get results, so this is wierd.
And also I'm not the only one that isn't able to connect to it, because nobody can.

It runs a Linux Centos 5.5 32 bit system.

Does somebody heard about this problem before, or how can I check if I get ddossed.

Greetz, Roel

Ps; everyone who read this can you ping to 159.253.5.205 and tell me if you get results, then I will be able to fix it easier.

Pinged the IP you provided in your thread, and the result was 100 % packet loss. Check your bandwidth graphs and see for any huge bandwidth spikes.

You might wan't to check your bandwidth graphs as mentioned and contact the hosting company.

Pinged with my dedicated server and my home PC, results:

Check the current bandwidth usage (you can use a utility like http://gael.roualland.free.fr/ifstat/ to do so from the VPS console). If it's more or the same as your maximum bandwidth, then it's probably DDoS. If it's nowhere near maximum, check your RAM usage. Too high RAM usage prevents new connections.

Thanks for the info, but I can't use wget since it doesnt get connection, so I think it's not a ddos, but just a fail from the host company... So I have to wait untill tomorrow because it's sunday and my host company doesn't know what 24/7 means.

So thanks all.

What is your hosting company connection rated in MB's? I Thought, if the speed isn't enough for 90 players and network get overloaded.

Yea , I will go back to an old host that I had, I left there because of the price, but I made a new deal, and this server provided me hosting for 200 players back in the days, without problems, so it should be fine a few days.

Still thanks all.
