I found this while looking through the Minecraft forums and it is so good! So far from the pictures it really is a 1:1 scale replica. What do you guys think? Will he ever finish it?

My mission is to create a full scale map of San Andreas from Grand Theft Auto. All 36 sq k of it.

Looks... interesting. Would take a long time for him to complete a full-scale map. Maybe he could create a mod to do GTA:SA missions? That would be cool. Maybe.

Haha what a waste of time, but still cool. Nice find.

Higher resolution is too mainstream

Yes I think texture packs/high res-packs ruin Minecraft as I always use the default 16x16 style. You're completely right about that and the reason I play MC from time to time is because it's not always about the graphics that make a game what it is.
In my opinion most people today(mainly children) think that video games are about how good the graphics are. I find a lot of people arguing over which games have the best graphics "(Insert game name here) is better because the graphics are way better". I've played quite a lot of games with average graphics and a storyline which captivates me, or a games where the game-play is only what is needed to make it enjoyable, but sadly, the majority are still going to base games solely on graphics alone and that's why you see "high-res" mods/texture packs in Minecraft.

Is it that they don't look good, or they don't suit the original game?

I play with a shaders mod, there is no problem with modifying your game to your own likings. Just like people using ENB in GTASA, GTAIV, Skyrim, NFS and etc..
