I use a linux VPS and it's wonderful. Runs smoothly and has wonderful specs. IMO windows VPS would be much worse than linux for a lot of reasons.

You can connect to Windows servers via Remote Desktop Connection.
And it will look very much like your PC, nothing command based is required.

Windows = Remote Desktop Connection = You type in the IP, Username + Password, and it "connects" you to the computer. Depending on the version of Windows, it will be the same! If the VPS has windows 7 installed, it will look exactly like your home PC (if you have windows 7 ). Most Windows VPS servers use Windows 2003 and 2008 though. Special editions (for less memory usage).

Windows > Linux personally. I hate Linux and the command prompt. I feel as if I have no control over the VPS at all. I'd get Windows anyday.

No one can say that Linux is better than Windows or vice versa. It really depends on what you want to do. Personally I would go for Linux, it's just personal preference. It runs way smoother, it's more open to tweaking and can run on low spec hardware and still perform well, whereas Windows eats up alot of RAM. Although assuming you never used Linux, I would go for Windows, as Linux takes you awhile to get used to, Windows your already familiar with.

Linux protects itself from simple DoS or DDOS attacks, as far as I been with my linux dedicated server, whenever I install windows on it It get's DDOS attacked easily and if I put linux on it, its OK, I'll get lag spikes but thats not a biggy.

IMO: Linux is alright, but If you don't make enemys and you dont know enough SSH you might as well install Windows if it fits your needs.
