Okay so I know it's possible to host your server on any VPS server. I was thinking about going with Host Gator since I already have several plans with them. If i choose them, how can i get everything working? Like port forwarding and control panel for game and everything. How?

port forwarding is not an issue since they are hosting, not you

on how you upload files you will most likely need to create an ftp account then access your ftp account by downloading filezilla
