SA-MP on a VPS
#1

I'm new to dedicated servers, virtual private servers, etc. Until I moved here to Australia (Oct 0, I hosted a SA-MP server at home. Now, it's been almost a year since my server was online and I think it's time to bring it back. But I also need a VPS for various other reasons, so rather than buy normal SA-MP hosting, I want a VPS.

So, I'm looking for a VPS that must fit the following requirements:

- Able to run two SA-MP servers with 100 slots, one with 64 slots and one with 2 slots - With the ability for them all to be completely full.
- Able to host a very small website, just a few HTML pages, and a small forum (probably SMF).
- I need some kind of basic control panel for the website. cPanel is great, but I'm sure I could adapt to most others. Obviously I need to be able to easily replace scripts and change stuff on the SA-MP servers, as well.
- Must have lots of resources spare (room to grow).

A very BIG bonus would be if the VPS could, at the same time, run it's own small IRC network - we're talking VERY small, just a few people on at one time. However, I know that I can set up the domain so that the VPS hosts the website, and the IRC is on a seperate server which I pay for seperately. So this is not a requirement, but it would help.

So, does anybody have any suggestions on a good deal for me? I don't know how much bandwidth or RAM SA-MP takes up, so if you have hosted SA-MP on your own VPS before, and been happy with it, please tell me where and how much. Much appreciation to anybody who helps me out. Thanks,

Jack.

I'm looking for somebody with a good experience with a particular host who used their VPS to host SA-MP amongst other things. You can't really type that into ******.

Your VPS should hold as many users as you want, even 200 on one server.

It doesn't take a lot of ram, etc, so go for it

For that many players (165) you should be looking at a dedicated server.

ServerFFS has very good hosting, especially when it comes to VPS's.

I got mine the other day (from ServerFFS), I have set up 2 SA-MP servers and Apache on it, as well as some other things, and it's working fine

Hey mate, thanks for your post.

I saw ServerFFS in the sticky and checked them out, they seem pretty good. How many slots do your two servers have, and what is your VPS configuration?

Also, does anybody know how much bandwidth SA-MP uses? I'm thinking not much at all..?

Hi.

I also have a serverFFS VPS. On it, I run a wiki, a forum, a site, MySQL server, teamspeak server, and a SA:MP server with 150 slots:

CPU load averages
0.82 (1 min) 0.71 (5 mins) 0.68 (15 mins)

Memory
1024 MB total, 730.50 MB used

Network average
343.51 kB/s (Measured over 30 seconds)

Here are my VPS specs:

1Ghz CPU, 1GB RAM, 5GB HDD, 500GB bandwidth.

Of course, your resource usage will depend on your game mode, and players online. I have 32000 lines in my script, and about 70 players on my SA:MP server at the moment. Nobody on teamspeak at the moment.

Hope this helps, good luck.

P.S. serverFFS is a great host, with good support. There's like, 50 ways to contact their support team
