Let's get right into this, the cancellation of 0.3.8 was very disappointing as we were all excited to see the outcome of future RC's especially the textdraw system revamp. This post isn't a plea to get 0.3.8, it's a post of appreciation and to cast my opinions on your thoughts Kalcor.


Objects and Skins discussion

Let's put it this way, many people didn't know how to model and since you announced the ability to download server sided models A LOT of people started to learn how to model taking baby steps, some even hiring modellers. Ofcourse if you and matite would have produced more models because you two are used to this, you both slammed hundreds of models in one single update; but if this project would have continued many others would of mastered modelling for SA and would of produced models non stop. And I can only say 60% of people don't show their work on sa-mp forums they show their work within their own communities.

Slighly larger and more professional servers

I know for a fine fact LS-RP, RC-RP, niCe's server and BA-RP will all be using the 0.3.7-DL update rather than the main update you will release; which will be a little awkward right forgive me if I'm wrong and don't completely understand how all this will work but wouldn't it be preferred most servers using the main update? especially the "official" servers.


LS-RP had produced over 40 skins I believe, not seen what models they were working on or releasing onto the server.
RC-RP had produced over 60 skins by 2 men, and objects being created for drug systems and all.
We, at BA-RP had produced over 50 skins and had another 25 in development. We also had 30+ objects planned for the future to go with drug systems, police lighting, exterior + interior objects, and I could go on with the amount of ideas we had.
Italy Mafia had a lot in the works as I've been told and apparently so did Horizon Gaming

and the countless efforts by the smaller servers need to be recognised to, I'm not going to include them in this topic as I don't follow the development of many servers but feel free to discuss it yourselfs in the topic.

Textdraws & Sprites
This was by far my most favorite part of 0.3.8, the ability to add custom sprites created inevitable opportunities including new GUI's, features, in-game mini games etc..

I personally was too excited for the text draw revamp, and I know A LOT of others were too I was checking the forum everyday for that RC5 release.

I've seen some pretty sick things created with this so far and I'll show some peoples work here too










Most importantly let's not forget some people have started servers completely based on the 0.3.8 update and the expected new features to arrive in 0.3.8 such as Vice City Roleplay by Reyo and Dignity, zombie vice city, liberty city,

I support the author of the topic. Every hour I went to the forum to check if the update came out. And now we got such unpleasant news that 0.3.8 will not, I'm very upset.

I also checked the forum for a long time, waiting for new RCs. I also worked on models and sprits, was loving the new features and keeping my players eager for the update.

Now, everyone and myself, we are disappointed with this hasty decision.

Agreed.

The sad truth is learning to model takes time. If you let 0.3.8 settle in for 2 months after a full release you'll see the greatness.

It's summer is australia, most other places it's christmas / new years, 0.3.8 was announced during exams.

You gotta give it some time man...

I'm just worried that this will bring down the average player count across the board, as the players are torn between 0.3.7 & -DL

Some servers will no doubt jump to get the downloads, but their players might not realise that doing so will cause them to be unable to join the other servers not wanting to jump until its a main release.

This change punishes everyone, and will i suspect be bad for the smaller servers, especially if all the big ones change for the downloads. I'm genuinely concerned for the player counts on all servers across the master lists, compared to before this was announced.

Also worth noting, numbers are universal. You don't translate them. Letters and words require translation, and often those translations are not clearly understood. 0.3.8 would be immediatley obvious to even non native English speakers. However -DL, and the attached documentation and downloads for it, may confuse people as to why X or Y doesn't work.

Personally I was looking forward to the Vice City & Liberty City stuff personally, but will have to see which way the servers, and thus the players, go before i can make any decisions on my own server to reduce the loss of players as much as possible.

I absolutely agree with this point, I don't see why 0.3.7-DL/0.3.8 couldn't have just been released with the main branch - I understand that there is a plan that it will be reintroduced to the main branch at some point but how long will that be, for all we know that could be years from now.

I fear the decision made is going to split and divide the SA-MP community which just really isn't needed at this point.

Kalcor didn't give it enough time. Server developers were working extremely hard and even spending money (like myself) on modders to create models. This is why Kalcor saw a lack of interest because he didn't see what was happening behind the scenes! But in my opinion, all of us were extremely interested to see something new come to the scene.

I don't understand how this could go wrong? It was something that would change SA:MP as a whole, we would have a large variety of new modes, not just our general roleplay, cops and robbers and so on so fort but we could all vision creativity occurring in the future.

It really is disappointing - but overall, we will still have the models etc. so I'm grateful for this.

I agree with some of the above posts, that Kye didn't give it enough time. Making objects is a very long and arduous task, especially id you don't know how to do it anyway to start with.

Kalcor said that 0.3.8 will be skipped, then that means 0.4 is coming? or maybe 0.3.9..

But yeah, i was super looking forward to VC:RP cause they had all these features and stuff, i waited everyday for a new update on their discord channel.
