Might be hard 
The thing is, your server won't be displayed anyways, you can try and find third party server lists, where you can register your server. Advertise in this forum, *******, social networks in general and tell your friends. Maybe even buy an advertisement banner somewhere , where it might be cheap and useful?

Well sure it's possible.
Lets say you have a server (with hosted tab) and get 50 players daily. You remove the hosted tab and you will get min. 30 players a day (not permanent though). Otherwise, just get a hosted tab, they are cheap.
