I've been using ESET Smart Security in the past 5 years. Never had any issues with it.
But if you are reckless over the web, shit always finds its way to your computer (the above gif is kinda true).
The ultimate protection is the user himself. Know when to expect infections and if they are real, learn to take the proper measures against them.
Use any AV suggested here.

for real, just do a scan with malwarebytes from time to time and it should be good.
also as sickattack said, bitdefender is pretty good

I've been using
COMODO Internet Security for over 5 years. It's a matter of personal preference and yeah, Windows Defender is total sh*t.
Never had any intrusions whatsoever with it, ofc. all protections are always active. Stay safe. Be well.
