SA-MP Playerbase?
#1

This has probably been posted quite a few times since the release of newer GTA games.

I myself haven't been very active on SA-MP (not to any other games, but in general have spent several years playing and lost interest in most games them self).

A couple of years ago when I was hosting multiple servers - competition was tough in trying to get an active player base (obviously dependant on the type of game mode, I entirely understand.)

I'm now interested in SA-MP again and have come back, taken a look at a couple of my previous scripts and amazed at how different, efficient and easier I could make a script - And I am interested in doing so! However...

I don't want it to be a huge waste of time! If I were to start a game mode, yet again from scratch - I'd be making it as future proof as possible with the best practices I have learnt over the years.

So to the SA-MP community .. Is the SA-MP community still as active as it were .. 2 years ago? Has it decreased, is it stable - or has it increased?

I do recall seeing a sa-mp statistics page a while ago -- this would answer my question if anyone possibly has the link to it? (I've seen a cloned one which is IMO fairly useless as it's only new, and only has new data which is of no use to me!)

Many thanks.

New generation takes over, I suppose? You get more people who can't speak English or barely, but the playerbase seems to be the same, probs a little decrease.

Can't find the link either, but let me assure you that the community is still as active as it ever was.

That is what I was looking for - But that's only mid 2015 so not useful for what I'm trying to use it for! (Unless there is a way to go back further which I can't seem to find on that page?)

But from looking at that, it looks as if it's fairly active! It would be interesting to see if anyone had a stats page for the amount of servers rather than players aswell? (preferrably going further back than mid 2015!)

First there was samp.popznet.com, but its offline for quite a while. Most recent data available at web.archive.org is from september 2014: http://web.archive.org/web/201409180...p.popznet.com/
You need to check the source for pw, sw and mw though, because web.archive does not support the graph display.

Then theres http://mauzen.org/samp/ with data since june 2015, so a little bit less than a year gap.
I might add popz data sometime to get a better overview, but it looks like playercounts have dropped slightly from 60k to about 50k weekly max (mind that popznet shows weekly maximums, my website shows daily min/max/avg) Number of servers also dropped accordingly (~5000 to ~4500).

Edit: Popz' data is now included on my website. I dont have his explicit permission for that, but its seriously difficult to contact him, and as I got this from the web archive where it is publicly available anyways I guess there shouldnt be a problem with that. Also added a note that he actually collected that data, not me.
Can be toggled on with the link below the graph (remember to compare it with the uppermost (maximum) of the other lines, as his data is the weekly maximum)

Awesome, I've been wondering if you were going to do this. Should have just asked you directly lol. I asked Popz for permission for you, he said he doesn't mind

Yep, sometimes I just need a kick in the ass to finish stuff. Parsing and including the data didnt even take 20 minutes, but Ive not done it for months
Thanks for passing the question, I forgot that you still have contact with him.

I've also been collecting some data by scraping samp's homepage since the end of April 2015, so I can give you a month more of stats. The only problem might be that it is less accurate, as I thought it was a good idea to use a cron job that only gets the data at 10am and 10pm (CET), which means only 2 readings per day.
If you wish to include the data, I've put it on pastebin: http://pastebin.com/zVnrkxrG

edit: whoops, I swapped the order in the first row; it should be #servers@10am #players@10am #servers@10pm #players@10pm

Nice, thats a good bunch of data. I almost gave up thinking that anyone else took some records. Actually its not that bad that its only data at 2 times a day. Those times both are close to the common daily average, so even though this doesnt tell much about the daily max and min, it can be used to get the average playercount for that time, which imo is the best number when comparing the overall activity over time (which probably is the main thing people use the statistics for).

Thanks for that! Ill add the data soon.
