An old example.
There is one engine that overtakes the graphics of Unreal Engine and any other engine, called Euclideon.

The reason how they achieved such a detailed graphics, is because they use machine to scan and capture the area and the texture of it, turning it into 3d graphics later.
Enabling to give much more detailed texture on 3d models.
It isn't perfect, as you can see on the video it has blurred text and parts, but this I believe isn't an issue for a 3d modeler.
However, its of course not free, so if you're going to make a game, better stick with Unreal Engine or Unity.
(or even CryEngine if you have some bucks to spend each month)
