Do SA:MP servers need any sorts of DDoS protection?

Generally asking, do SA:MP servers need any sorts of DDoS protection these days? Is it that server managers want to stay safe or is it that they experience a DDoS attack every day? Please voice your opinion!

DDoS, DoS, or however you mention it.

Obviously they do need DDoS protection in order to prevent network attacks and further downtime.
Even though I never encountered a DDoS attack on my former server, I guess they're not so rare as they seem to. Some bigger communities are aware of this, and take caution, therefore they are seeking to get the best protection available.

4/5 of the servers I have (co)owned within the past 3 years have received multiple DDoS attacks. I'd get it just to stay on the safe side - you never know when some skid comes into your server and starts making threats.

Yes, they do need DDoS protects. Especially the big communities. The competitors always try to reduce their playerbase by DDoSing them, so yeah, DDoS protected should be there as a precaution.

We get DDoSed on average every couple days (gbps+), but since it's summer it's every single day, aha. How do we deal with it?
  • We budgeted well and grabbed a server with DDoS filtration and a gigabit connection.
  • Completely ignored attackers. I treat DDoS like rubber bullets, ineffectual to kevlar worn by your server.
  • High-profile attacks, we promptly follow up with our host.
Initially speaking though, we weren't getting attacked frequently because we simply had no enemies and were very little to our competition. But as soon as you progress and begin to perform much better than others; that is when you become a target. Growing servers honestly should not have an issue, but when you have grown - you will experience these type of people.

I really don't see how getting DDoS protection will 'protect' management. 3rd party applications generally expose your personal IP address most of the time...

Obviously they need it, but DDoS protection can not handle heavey attacks. Which leads servers for downtime for many hours..

This is like asking "should I get a car insurance?" If you care, the answer is always yes.

Every server needs DDoS protection, regardless of it's nature.
To get an idea of how messed up things are, I'll tell you this:
I came in contact with a guy who was attacking my server. I asked him why was he doing this, since he had no motive.
He just said that he didn't need a motive. He just wanted players on his server and he's was doing this because he could, and it was working for him.

That's how messed up people are these days. They grow older and you hope they change. Some of them do, some of them don't, but you can't take any chances. That question shouldn't even be asked here.
