Genetic Systems in Roleplay?
#1

Hello,

I was having a great idea for the server we are developing, half of the board thinks it's an awesome idea while the other half thinks it'll make us loose players, if they don't decide, we can't really proceed to develop it, so I thought asking in the forums would be a good idea. If you take the idea, it's fine.

Basically once a player joins the server, they will proceed to the registration panel, there's several fields, the first field is 'Name', now here works the genetics, if a couple marries, they will have the option to 'Have a kid...', for this it will generate a random algorithm with a unique ID, they give it to a friend, and the friend writes it on registration, and that will give them the last name of the family and a name that the parents decide.
If they don't have a family, basically they can pick a random last name from a huge database (if they don't like the last name, they can press generate again), role-playing they have lost all his family, parents will receive a random name too. Now the benefits of having parents is, obviously, higher financial status, a house (if the parents have one) and several other features that I'm yet to define.

Now if they have a code, they will also receive the genetics of a combination of parents (basically skin colours combined, each skin going into a special category). Otherwise, if no parents, they will be able to pick a specific skin from a list. Now once they pick a specific skin colour, they can't change skin to the one of another colour, like if they have picked to be white, they can't change to become black.

And well, those are the two controversial topics, I would like to know if you guys would actually join a server with this features.

It's a cool idea but it would take time because people would have to ask around to become a part of a family. Maybe you should have this feature but not upon registration. Players should be able to become a part of a family after registered, maybe an invite feature for this... Their account will be wiped and they will have to start all over again. Then they will get to choose a first name and receive the after name from the family which invited him/her. So yeah I support the idea but don't have it upon registration.

Not really, they will have a randomly generated last name (or donate for a custom last name) and they decide the name. The benefit is a (though light) filter for non-roleplay names.

Hmm okay, I'll vote for it. You should listen on the rest of the SA:MP community and maybe add a poll as well.

It's a unique feature, and I can say that I've never heard of anything quite similar to this. Whilst it's nice and might add something new to RP, I can't see this feature being used to the extent where it would actually be worth scripting in as (from my point of view) I don't see all that many people using it. It's an over-exaggerated idea for such a simple concept and you're creating work for yourself that could be avoided through basic role play concepts. If I were to contribute, I would say spend time developing already existing systems that would potentially allow you to achieve what you have specified in your post, therefore you're broadening the potential RP rather than focussing on something so specific.

Just a bit of constructive criticism. Good luck.

It is a good idea, but we have come to the point in SA-MP that unique doesn't get you players. Most of the players don't like change, and everyone joins the server with the most players. They might get banned, or get bored and try and find another server like their old server, which they can't.
