ive just started using mta map editor and when i get to where i want to map i cant remember the button to press so you can use the menus

If memory Serves, 'F3' is the key to customize...
'F' to bring up buttons.

Yeah, F is to switch between free-move view and the static screen with the buttons and crap. I remember when I first used MTA... took me YEARS (not literally, lol) to find this out.
