Is ping in SA-MP measured in milliseconds?
#1

I was on a server today and a few people including myself were discussing how one player that was online had a ping over 1,000. I said that 1,000 equals 1 second, and another player said that was wrong and started mentioning some sort of format involving fragmentation.

I decided to do some research and found this on Wikipedia:

According to Wikipedia, ping is measured in milliseconds. My question is:

Yes.

The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 8 characters.

The ping is the time an ICMP packet needs to go to the server and back to the user

Milliseconds, for sure

If the ping somehow is 65535 then theres a problem with the connection :P

I think a ICBM packet sure takes a lot longer than a few miliseconds to reach you

Ah, but the throughput of an ICBM is truly astounding - consider the throughput rate of an ICBM full of 2TB hard drives versus a 100mbit connection. Sure, the latency is higher but never underestimate the throughput rate of an ICBM full of hard drives.

On a more serious note, yes ping in SA-MP is measured in milliseconds.

Unless noted otherwise, ping is always measured in milliseconds no matter the application.

Ping is the time it takes for the receiving host to respond. You were partially (vaguely) right. If there's a problem with the connection, you don't get a response. ICMP serves multiple purposes.. pinging a host is one of them.
