Didn't understand your problem, but I think you should use "isnull" like I do.
I just had a similar problem.

I meant replacing strlen with isnull (!strlen to isnull)
But that wouldn't solve the problem.
I think you have a missing closing brace.
Try removing few commands until you get which command is the cause.
