lagging timers - happyface - 22.06.2009

is there anything i can do about lagging timers? i have isplayerinarea timer every 1 second, and it to set health -10 every time if in a specified area, but when i go in and test it, it take like 10-15 seconds between health drop instead of 1 sec. i have other timers, do these lag the script a lot or what?
