SA:MP Workshop? - GaByM - 16.01.2018

Wouldn't be better if instead of downloading the models from the server you are joining, you download the mods from a central server where all the models are available and where all the comunity can create and upload their models?

If we look through older updates we can see that Kalcor added a lot of models to SA:MP, so I guess that him (and all the samp dev) can test and than accept/reject some particular models from workshop instead of creating a SAMP version where everyone can do whatever they want and things can go crazy. (+ an update isn't necessary)

Also, this way Kalcor can prevent owners from stealing models from other games.

I have to agree, I have always been against freedom over custom models. The main reason I'm against it as in MTA I've joined many servers which no longer look like San Andreas, examples of servers I've seen: GTA Mario Kart 64, GTA Counter Strike. I have to also argue however that some servers used the ability to use custom models well, but with a poor internet connection you spent most of your time sat waiting to join as the models are downloading. Once you were in there though, there were little additions everywhere but the main scenery was still GTA SA hence why it was still fun.

I don't however feel a global database anyone can contribute to and anyone can use it would work, this would be for many reasons I'll list a few below. I however feel that as were having custom models I would like control over what I use and how I use it, as this allows me my creative freedom.

1: Moderation: The amount of objects being uploaded could potentially be too much to moderate, each object has to be downloaded and checked remember.

2: Sharing: If I'm going to put several hours into perfecting a building with an exterior and interior I don't really want to share something I've just spent my hours with anyone. I've made something unique and I feel I should be able to have exclusive use of it (I do understand models can be stolen anyway) unless I ask otherwise. You'll also have people who don't contribute to the database and still expect full use of everyone else models.

3: Updates: Lets assume they can be moderated everyday, that means the models database would need to be updated daily for every player as you can imagine manually fetching this would be annoying and tedious and if you never it would mean incompatibility with some servers. They'd have to make an auto-patcher which would have to check the current model database version each time SA-MP was opened.

There are more flaws I could find but I get told I write too much.

If you don't want servers that dont look like San Andreas then don't play them?
