I used SMF in the beginning. SA-MP used SMF in the beginning too. Then it moved all to vBulletin

3 euros a month isn't much and I can host a full forum on it without advertisements.

Whether you have a free forum or a paid forum, this won't be the reason why your server failed or succeed.
FMJ ran on a free forum software for a few years and it was a popular server.

If your goal is to bring people from this forum to your server, then the first thing people will check out is your website and maybe forum, but if you're going to get them from the client or send them directly to your server (e.g. samp://127.0.0.1:7777 ), they won't care what kind of potatoes you have in your garden.

Even if you have an onion forums, you can succeed by lighting people's minds.
(Considering that you are showing any exciting things)

If forums is the mainly visible/visited thing on your server, then don't be surprised if your server is dying.

I dont play on servers that can't afford atleast two services a month. I also only play seriously on servers owned by real companies, and no. Not "Los Samtos Freedom Whatever gaming"., FYI that'd be a community and not a company. Playing on a home made server is not something I would recommend to do. They will close really quickly, look at Opis Gaming, they're an actual company and they've lived for a long time.

Depends, usually yes. I've seen huge gaming communities that started of a SMF forum, no website and no shit, and became one of the 'hit' servers, but when it comes to RP servers, having a free forum service is considered shit.

Disagree: I've seen many servers which they're popular such as: Los Santos Roleplay the server was using phpBB years ago but now they changed.
Using a free forum is alright, as long as it is properly usable.
