Those free ones are about as good as hosting a box on your LAN for testing, and barely anything more.

Buy a cloud VPS from OVH, you can get them for like 10 EUR a month, 6 GB ram (which is more than you'll ever need - you can even run your webhost on it given it's a forum board like phpbb) and since OVH is known for it's DDoS protection you can guarantee that the majority of attacks against your server will be properly mitigated.
