Pentium 4 is under netburst Microarchitecture. which uses higher clock speed, higher power and more heat.
compared to core
Intel Core family are from Core microarchitecture. uses low clock speed but has many memory and hyper threading abilities which makes it fast
Research them both and compare and take into consideration what model they are

Yep. Pentium 4 is even more ancient. I once had a pretty fast Pentium 4, but changing to a first generation core 2 was the biggest relative improvement ive ever had.
Guess you want to upgrade the CPU without getting new mainboard? Socket 775? Go for a Q6600 then, costs almost nothing, great power per dollar, and when going for anything better you could get a whole board and faster CPU for the same money.

Core2Extreme is just fine for SA-MP. Up until recently all of my gaming rigs were Core2Duo or Core2Quad. I'm actually going to upgrade the Quads to Extremes myself. Core2Extreme still a good processor for medium-end games.
(Hell I play Planetside 2 on High w/ my Core2Quad and still get ~ 50 fps, which isn't great but isn't terrible)
