You put it at your parking space at work and the barrier goes up to stop anyone else parking in your space, when you come along, a sensor in your car sends the barrier a signal and you can drive over it when it lowers.

Ohh... but it dosent look very strong, Is it bolted to the ground? otherwise i would pick it up >.<
