Try using OBS, I used to have the exact same CPU and had the same issue with Fraps, I switched over to OBS and everything worked like I wanted it to.

I tried it, and the recording is smooth and nice, but when I view the video, its all messed up and it stops playing after 5 seconds.

I have the same problem, I've been looking for a fix. Cannot find any unfortuantely. I suggest you to use fpslimit.cs.
It increases your FPS by around 70 or even more, depending on your specs.

Check any background processes running that you don't need, perhaps uTorrent, Skype, Teamspeak, Internet Browser etc.

Did you try defragmentation ? How much free space do you have in the drive where you save the video ? Also try using Dxtory and ******* to get some decent settings according to your specs.
