VPS DNS Question -
DRIFT_HUNTER - 01.04.2015
Well i have a small Ubuntu VPS, and installed lamp stack. Domain pointed to my VPS ip (using my registrars DNS).
But i just want to have DNS on my VPS so i can use wildcards for subdomains and such.
Now. When you are setting up dns in domain CP it ask's you for name server(s). These is where im lost and can not find answer on ****** (yeah...that happened...) Do i have to put my IP there or ? Also if i can put my ip there how do i define nameservers on my end (and do i need to do it at all?)
Im sorry for these dumb questions but i just cant understand the way these works...

If you purchase a domain, you need to edit the nameservers from the company's panel you have bought it. As I remember, the name server is the IP of your server, in this case your VPS. After setting up nameservers, the link with your domain should be created (you should park the domain on VPS, if you use any web control panel, such as zPanel).

I don't think it will be necessary to set up your own DNS servers. I think most hosts offer these for free. Check their FAQ if they have one or open a ticket.

@Michael, thx at least its clearer to me now how its functioning.
@Vince, yeah they offer it and it is free but most of them dont allow wildcards and that is what i need.
