I would advise getting a simple script, and then changing small things about it, seeing how it will affect the server, as well as adding small things to see how it works.
Watching tutorials is good as well, but you should always start with scripts that aren't advanced.

Yeah, you should always start with simple scripts, not advanced ones. Most of the people new to scripting always goes for complex scripts and is left with nothing. So, modify simple scripts and see how it effects the server, like Calvinc said. I think you should start with a DM script.
