I'd suggest starting with the easier stuff such as programming/scripting, then move on the more heavier stuff such as MySQL etc, do DINI YINI, etc first.

That's the only script I ever have used, and will remain to use, however I have Ravens in MySQL and YSI.

Why in hell would you use a poorly done script to learn from? If you use a poorly done script, you're going to end up learning poor techniques.
Learn from good examples, not bad ones. It's common sense, really.
EDIT: Also, not once did OP mention scripting
