Technical PC Question - Will a better CPU increase FPS? - NL-Sultan - 31.08.2014

Hello. I've got a question, I think that my graphics card is not that bad, but I do know that my CPU is pretty bad. So, I wonder, if I buy a better CPU will it increase my fps while playing games? I'll put specs below.

CPU: AMD Vishera FX-6300, Six Core
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3-1600
600 Watt Cooler Master

So. If I buy one of AMD's best; AMD Vishera FX-8350, Eight-Core, will my FPS increase in games? And like, how much.
I think it's one of ADM's best CPU's, or should I go with Intel? I'm just choosing AMD because I've got an AMD Game PC.

It depends on the game actually, some games such as Skyrim takes up more CPU so it would def increase the FPS.
Games such as Crysis 3 however that eat a lot of VRAM will be independent on the GPU.

Dude, your GPU is DOPE, 8 gig or ram is good for almost every game ever existed... So the logical conclusion is that you need a better CPU.

If that doesn't work then you're having some kind of issues with your GPU.

If you switch to Intel, you'll have to buy both the CPU (at least an i5 3570, or K version if you're planning to overclock) and a new motherboard; great for games though.
If you switch to an 8350, you're going to have some difficulty optimizing games. I'm speaking from experience as I have an FX-8350 and some games have CPU lag spikes (looked at charts, nothing is wrong with the GPU). I'd recommend switching to Intel if you're just playing games because the FPS is more stable than the FX-8350. I honestly regret buying it.

AMD's FXs are great for multithreading, but their single core performance is much lower then intels i series.
Most games cant handle more than 2 or 3 cores anyways, so you got 3 to 5 extra cores doing nothing and end up with a lower game performance than intel (e.g. intels 4670 is as fast as AMDs FX-8350 in full multithreading performance, but in single thread performance the intel one is 60% faster, making it also almost 60% faster in most gaming applications). Thats also the reason why hyperthreading cpus are nonsense for gaming pcs.

YOU wont see any significant FPS increase when upgrading from FX 6300 to FX 8320/8350.
FX 6300 is enough. However 8 core will only improve your PC performance in terms of rendering / video editing or similar stuff but in games only 2-4% of FPS change which isnt worth.
And your GPU is also good enough however if you really want an upgrade go for a GPU upgrade only to like 770 or a 280x.
But imo 660 should be able to handle most of games at 60fps well at Medium'ish settings
