Windows 8.1, anyone? - GWMPT - 20.10.2013

Hey guys, a few days ago, microsoft officially released windows 8.1.
And I'm thinking, does anyone from here already have it?
If so, what do you think about it?

As well, am I the unique one getting the activation error after installing the windows media center?

Thanks!

Nope. Might consider getting Windows 9 if it gets rid of this metro and touch crap for desktops. They added a Start button in Windows 8.1 which, frustratingly enough, just opens the metro interface.

I actually prefer the speed of which I can look up stuff in windows 8. I mean, press Windows button, type program name, press return.

Also, you can just right click the start button and tadaah, all the options you had in windows 7.
This was also already possible in windows 8. 8.1 just adds a button for you to click on.

I do have windows 8.1, currently all the main changes I have seen are the new start button that, as Vince said, just opens the Metro bit that was built for touch screens, and also the booting directly to the desktop..

Thats about it..

I haven't had the error with the media center, I just had a quick ****** and found this:

The search speed is just amazing!

Just saw the same thing now.
Since contacting them will take time... Maybe installing windows 7, and then windows 8 again, will do the job in less time than getting a answer of them.
[I can't do a fresh install of windows 8, "video_tdr_failure", just upgrading from windows 7 to windows 8]
Then i'll just avoid to install the extra apps which they offer.

I still think it's ridiculous to use software designed for phones and tablets on a PC (although there are some improvements) and therefore I refuse to use it. Just like Vince said, I'm upgrading to 9 if they got rid of Metro. It's just about the principle here.

That's the point. Everyone says it was developed for touchscreens, while actually it was developed for touchscreens AS WELL. In my opinion, it does work superb on my desktop and laptop.

But hey, that's your opinion.

You can get an app such as start 8 or classic shell to have it work just like in windows 7.

I've used windows 8 since the start and seen the metro interface just once until I installed start 8.

I will hopefully upgrade to it soon.

Only if your desktop or laptop is touch screen.

I cannot list a single thing I like about Windows 8. Hundreds of useless, pre-installed "apps", horribly laid out UI, complicated measures to complete simple tasks, consistently getting the scrolling features and pop ups for moving the mouse to the side, etc. It was built for tablets and smart phones; end of story.
