Is it safe to sell..? - Saurik - 26.09.2013

Is it safe to sell a used SD card? I formatted the SD card and deleted all the files but I have a feeling, and probably it's true, that the data can easily be restored. Is there anyway to delete it for good?

Thank you.

There is allways way to restore atleast some of files from SD card,if you had something important on it then don't sell it...
If you had something and no one knowed, why would somone spend time to restore something and he don't know what he want to restore or whatever...

Yeah. I advise you not to sell it if it had important/personal information.

overwrite the data a couple of times fully.
Deleting/Formatting mostly means reallocating the space used by the files/data to be used again.
When you overwrite it with safedata it's safeer I guess.
Also I think there's some sofware that can do this. Not sure though.
Never had to.

Fully overwriting the card would decrease it's lifetime, you might piss off the buyer if the card stops working after a few weeks...

Just throw it out or keep it for a Raspberry Pi etc, SD cards are cheap now anyway.

Well, practically you cant delete it fully, there'll always be little of it left, damaged or corrupted but still...
But I dont really think some random person is going to do all the hard work to restore your files, as far as I know, it requires pretty much work.

What is it? A 64gb card?
Everything else wouldnt really be worth reselling in my opinion. SD card prices are low like hell and their worth drops like skrlx if you used them for a while. If you really had sensible data on it, id forget that 5$ and keep it as a usb stick.

Nevertheless, im not 100% sure about that, but as sd cards use flash chips, im pretty sure that you cant recover any old data from it if you overwrite all bits once. Just deleting the files does absolutely nothing, every kid could download a restore tool and get 90% of them back.

1. format
2. fill SD with public files(files you wont mind others seeing)
3. format

now if they recover it, they will only get your "public files"
