Bots don't like math :D ? - Saurik - 16.09.2013

Hey guys.

I've noticed that ******'s recaptcha thing doesn't really work anymore. After turning it on, 10 bots managed to register and post viagra and other advertisements. After I put a simple math equation they seemed to stop registering. I was wondering, does the recaptcha thing work for you or am i doing something wrong?

It's keeping my forum clean, as far as I know. Maybe a mistake in the public and private key (not sure if it would show up at all or throw an error if that's the case)?
It's always nice to add a question along with the captcha though, gives a little more security.

Experiencing slightly more bot registrations on my blog, but not that bad.

The thing about recaptcha is that its just one task, and that task gets more and more easy to solve. Every bot knows what to do when it meets a recaptcha check: analyze the image and type what it says. Recaptcha was safe, because algorithms for text recognition in those images are really tricky and intensive, also not that accurate. But once the algorithms are working, recaptcha isnt a problem anymore (at least after several tries until good images appear).

Simple questions can be a lot more tricky to solve for bots. They need a quite complex AI just to figure out the intention of the question, and eventually a lot of knowledge of the topic of the website or general stuff.
So a bot solving (well chosen) questions has to be really clever, a recaptcha bot just needs a good algorithm (sure there are some AI techniques for image recognition, but thats a completely different kind of AI).

I always prefer keycaptcha since it requires human interferance.

I've always found captcha's fun until you really -can't- read them, haha.

So it is for some humans too ;P If some people get a simple question, they answer it wrong, but if they get a hard question, they get it right. This probably because they're thinking too difficult :P

This. I'd imagine an easy riddle with some clever meaning might be the easiest way to filter out the bots.

Yea, same thing for me. I still experience bots with it enabled. It does make a huge difference when it's not there.
