you need a VPS and change the DNS
if i etc created server.domain.com you need to edit its DNS settings
"www.server and server" to the VPS IP address.
And make sure you use the server.domain.com @ the VPS host.
E.tc VPS
http://www.domvps.com
Domain
Well pretty much any webhost.

Okey i know that was abit quick and messy.
Im gonna take it step by step.
1) Buy a domain "as you did".
2) Buy a VPS "Virtual Private Server" Eg.
www.domvps.com
3) Login to access your domain name, edit your domain name settings "DNS".
4) In the DNS setting you will find your subdomain as (
www.play and play) change the IP's of those to the VPS ip that they provides you when you buy it.
5) Login to domVPS and add play.mydomain.com
6) upload your server files to the VPS.
7) if you use a default port in samp "7777" it will be used as play.mydomain.com:7777
EG. here is mine
server.prototype-gaming.net:7777

If you have cpanel go to your Advanced DNS Zone Editor and make a new A record with your subdomain (play.yourdomain.com) and point it to your servers ip without the port. Then you can just use play.yourdomain.com on the samp client or if you have a port other than 7777 use play.yourdomain.com:yourport

Do you have the actual ip in your favorites list with the sub-domain ip? If so remove the ip and just use the sub-domain ip.
EDIT: It also may help to lower the TTL to a smaller value.

I have done it multiple times with no vps, so im not sure why you want him to waste money on a vps just to have that. For example my old minecraft server is hosted by a hosting provider and i just made a sub-domain redirect to it with a port at the end....

Have you tried waiting 24-48 hours for DNS pair before ruling that out?
