It was quite clear to people in 2006 itself that GTA: SA was based on real life cities. (Las Venturas --> Las Vegas)

Ingame: Unity Station. In real life: Union Station, Los Angeles.


Ingame: Big Pointy Building. In real life: Transamerica Pyramid, San Fransisco.


Ingame: Clowns Pocket. In real life: Circus Circus, Las Vegas.


Most notable buildings in San Andreas are based on real life buildings.
