Does a soundcard make a huge difference? -
Haydn - 09.02.2013
Hey guys, I don't currently have a soundcard (onboard audio). I use my Turtle Beach X12's quite a bit and I'm wondering if it makes a huge difference getting a soundcard? I'm not going to spend a huge amount.

I'm looking to get that, Is it worth it? Is there anything better for around the same price? What would you do with the money to upgrade your own PC?

Yes it is worth it, I have ASUS Xonar which is the one you want to buy, and I can tell you that there is a very big difference from using a sound card and not, one big plus is making your headset into speakers.
So yes I do recommend it.

Generally having a sound card will increase audio performance and sound. Some games (at least back in the day) required users to have an actual sound card and not an on-board card.
However, most modern motherboards nowadays come with on-board audio that is nearly equal to purchasing a secondary sound card.

"Some games (at least back in the day) required users to have an actual sound card and not an on-board card."
Does that mean I can actually get higher FPS if I have a sound card?

Uhh I do not think so

Soundcard only gets the sound not gameplay e.g. graphics

I know, but doesn't it take some (not much at all) load of the cpu?

Nope.
If you want better FPS you can either upgrade the CPU itself or upgrade your graphics card.

Has nothing to do with FPS. A sound card does increase the quality and performance of audio however it really depends on what sound installation you have, some simple $40 speakers won't matter.

So I won't notice a difference with my Turtle Beach X12s?
