WHAT to do against DDOS attacks? -
Tomboeg - 29.10.2012
Okay i'm pretty pissed now.
Another SAMP server with 80+ players got DDOS'D to it's death...
WHAT can we do?
As far as i know there is nothing you can do
But there must be something since several other servers do not suffer DDOS attacks.
Please help and answer tis.

There are official ways (ip logging (important for further steps), firewall settings (works for small attacks), report to attackers providers (the providers are forced by law to take actions against clients abusing their connection), report to your own server provider (they will often take all further steps, as its their server being attacked)), and inofficial ways.
Both ways work, but as long as the attacked people just cry nothings gonna happen.

Do a IP whois thing, then complain to the company listed. Also, just close your server for a few hours, it's better than having your bandwidth sucked up and your server jumping online and offline...

As I know, DDoS attacks are illegal, if you know what person attacks you with DDoS, you can report him at the police I think, ... or I don't know where
) but I know that, you can report that person, and will be punished.

Theres no sure protection against the really big DDOS attacks. As soon as the providers bandwidth is all used up, theres no way to protect you software-sided. Even government and big company websites get frequently taken down by big organized DDOS attacks.
(in contrast, with the DOS attack, which should make 99% of samps dos attacks, theres just one or very few different attackers. Most attackers wont even come close the a hoster bandwidth, but overloads of the attacked (unprotected) server software make it inaccessible anyways)

No, "security" doesn't consist of DDoS protection. No hoster is going to provide that in hosting plans as DDoS protection is expensive and is not required everywhere. If you want DDoS protection then empty your pockets and buy one yourself.

Hi,
you may chose one host who got Firewall on their dedicated server, like CisCo ...
But it cant prevent all DDOS. If the ddos is to big, just wait.
There is no real way to be secure against DDOS.

Yesterday just reported three IP's to their ISP and to local authorities.
Is the best thing to do.
If you want a protection, just make your IP like samp.domain.com and then if you get attacked you make a null-route of the IP being attacked and you can another IP allocated for the machine.
That's I'm doing right now. and it works fine.
