I would choose 6. Simply because it is (in my opinoin) a optimized and better version of 5.
Is there a large difference in price?

Totally depends on what you wanna do.
I use centOS 5.8 64bits on the dedicated server, and centOS 6 / Ubuntu 12.04 on vps's.
