Eating food past it's "Best Before" date? - linuxthefish - 29.07.2012

Do people normally eat food after it's best before date, or is it dangerous? I've got some stuff like pizza dough and cheeze that is a few weeks out of date. Is it safe to eat things that are out of date?

I don't reccomend to eat any dairy products after their expiration date, or you will perhaps need to buy some shitload of toilet paper.

Sometimes companies put false expiry dates on their products in order to make the consumers buy them more frequently. I am still eating that peanut butter that "expired" six months ago.

Best before means that it's best before that date, the Government was looking into scrapping that because people think it means expire but it does not.

You can see other products having an Expire date along with Best before.

That's enormous bullshit and urban legend

"Best before" dates are put for 2 reasons:
- notes when food can spoil/rot/generally be inedible (remember kids, it's EDIBLE, not eatable :< ) for health reasons
- notes when food can lose its initial flavour/consistence/speciality, crystalize, dry, or anything related to its organoleptic properties, that's why it's BEST before, and it's put there so consumers won't blame and sue producers because something tastes not like it should do

So, using expired pizza dough will probably end up with untasty, rubber-like shit instead of pizza

I do not know how things are where you are from, but t'is a known fact here. I never had problems with eating products that are past their expiry date.
