Resolution problem - Zach2297 - 23.05.2012

As some of you may know, everyone needs the resolution 800x600 to start GTA:SA for the very first time.
Well I can't. And I want to know if this has anything with my cables to do.

Computer: Two DVI-I dual links and Mini-HDMI.
Screen: VGA and HDMI
Cable I'm using now: DVI-I single link to HDMI.
Graphics/Video card: nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti

Min resolution: 1280x720
Max resolution: 1920x1080

And as you can see I'm not able to start the game at all.
So I was wondering what the problem is.
Should I change to a...
DVI-I dual link to VGA/HDMI
or
DVI-I single link to VGA/HDMI

I actually don't know if it's my computer's connectors or the screen's connectors that decides the resolutions.
So that's what I'm trying to find out.
