Forums. SMF vs phpBB vs punBB -
Pri3st - 21.04.2012
Hi, so I'm in desperate need of some views from people who play SA:MP. My Community is launching in the near future, and I need to get my forum setup. I have my webhost, etc etc. I have 3 main options for my forum's operator,
Simple Machine Forums [SMF] phpBB, or punBB. Now, I've relized that I actually like phpBB a lot, but it's a pain in the ass to work with. When your trying to set permissions, etc. I tried SMF, and it's real cool and I like it. It's a bit more simpler, but there's not enough settings from ''what'' I've actually seen, I'm still searching. I've done punBB, and it seems easier to work with compared to phpBB, but looks most like phpBB and that's why I like it. When I first loaded it it's garbage, but I've seen established forums with it and they look amazing. So, can I get some oppions, in-sights, etc. This will be an RP community, so I will need usergroups, customizable permissions, thanks!
As said, I love phpBB and it's style/skins/plugins.
SMF is cool but I don't see enough options.
Haven't done much with punBB but it looks cool once established.
Note: If anyone is willing to help me with some of these forums, just PM me.

punBB is not my fan, it looks like phpBB or a mix of 1 with 2, used to use it back in 2004 not sure how it changed since then.
phpBB3 & 2 are good enough, have a great options.
SMF is good as well I like it a lot.
myBB? check that one out, great CMS but not fan of it, everything inside it seems to be... "big"

I looked at it. The thing is, here's kind of a noobish question. But my WebHost offers all the 3 I mentioned, and Vanilla Forums. Would the WebHost be compatible with things it doesn't offer to install? [i.e] myBB, vBulliten, etc?

vBulletin is payable so they wont offer for installation.
MyBB is probably not due - They do not want it or no one requested it.
You can simply install mybb by FTP...

True, any other clean forums worth looking at? But another problem with SMF 2.02 or whatever the version is, is there's simply not enough skins. I can't do websites, this is my first time hosting it actually.

SMF is full of great premium skins.
Anyways check this site:

Used AEF - nice CMS however lacks themes.

XMB looks cool. I pretty much narrowed it down between phpBB, and SMF. I might do more research on XMB and AEF though.

vBulletin and IP Board is easy to install. But the price for those forum licenses is over $100. I highly recommend to use vBulletin or IP Board.
